Synopsis: Good day, and thanks for your latest email with forecast request.
Please see your update below as follows.

By tomorrow, a broad trough will be extending WNW'ward across the Gulf of
Panama and into Nicaragua which will persist through at least the 17th while
remaining generally weak. The Equatorial Trough will be located between 05N to
about 08N which will be generating scattered showers/squalls with no tropical
development expected. By the 18th, broad high pressure ridging will be
extending S'ward across 08N/95W from a large high pressure system over the
Central US which will persist while weakening through the 20th as the high
moves e'ward.

Conclusion: Departing tomorrow from Panama is valid to Cocos Island. Initially
we will have to watch scattered showers/squalls which may locally enhance the
conditions at times, though expect generally NW'ly winds to rounding Punta
Mala. At this time, winds will lighten a bit and become generally WSW-SW'ly in
nature through arriving into Cocos Island.

A quick stop here is also valid, though we're going to have to recommend a
slight deviation from direct to Clipperton Island. With a wintertime pattern
setup with large ridges moving across the US, the Gulf of Tehuantepec surges
have become quite strong leading to large swells propagating SW'ward from the
initial surges every couple of days or so. The waypoint we have suggested,
06-21N/95-00W, will help the vessel remain south of the largest of swells
anticipated well into the longer range, though note these swells will be long
period. Also, this route will give the vessel some E-NE'ly winds to play with
for sailing.

This portion of the forecast is within the longer range and is subject to
change. With the length of the trip and in particular the swells generated by
NE'ly surges across Gulf of Tehuantepec, recommend getting a fresh update
before departing Cocos Island. We'll be standing by to hear from you. Thanks.
