NEW FEATURE: Latest News!

September 12, 2022 Update:

Obelix is moored in Ucluelet, 1/2 way up the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island. We’ve just completed an excellent passage from Bellingham, WA up to Nootka Sound, 3/4 of the way up the island. We had some excellent heavy weather sailing with Gale Warnings and we recorded winds of 33 knots and forecast seas were 5 meters (16′) but we didn’t see quite that large of seas. We were down to staysail and three reefs in the main and sailed upwind, surfed downwind and practiced heaving-to. We had nothing but brilliant sunshine (ok, a few hours of fog one morning) for the entire expedition.

Leg 8 expedition members, Ucluelet to Nootka Sound and then down to Bellingham board Wednesday afternoon and I’m looking forward to welcoming them aboard.

I’m excited to be able to invite you to my 175th Offshore Cruising Seminar October 14th at the Annapolis Boat Show:

Exciting news is that my 2023 expedition schedule is complete and posted. New for 2023 is a circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. Leg 5 will be Bellingham up the Inside Passage to Port Hardy at the north end of Vancouver Island. Leg 6 will be from Port Hardy out around Cape Scott and down the wild west coast of Vancouver Island, finishing in Bellingham. I’m expecting several folks may sign up for both expeditions.

Legs 9 & 10 will be in New Zealand where I’ve secured a Bavaria 46 based in Auckland. These expeditions already have accepted applications before they’ve been posted and looks to be the first legs to sell out. We’ll be sailing at the start of New Zealand summer with water warm enough for swimming and snorkeling every day and excellent sailing winds.

More updates coming soon!
