BOAT SHOW UPDATES – My only 2026 boat show will be Seattle Boat Show which runs January 30-February 7 and these are the seminars I’ll be presenting there:

Sat. Jan. 31 2pm: Choosing an Offshore Sailboat

Sun. Feb 1 1pm: Shorthanded Sailing Techniques

Tues. Feb 3, 3pm: New MOB Rescue Program. This is a program I’ve been developing over the past 38 years and will include video footage shot from aloft in New Caledonia. Co-presenter is Margaret Pommert, head of Lifesling and US Sailing’s Safety at Sea program.

I’ll be at each seminar venue one hour before and after these seminars to personally answer your questions.

I’m also excited to continue my long tradition of inviting any current or future Boat Purchase Consultation clients, previous expedition members and of course Julie & Gio and Renee and Ken (see below), previous students I’ve been teaching with and am helping get their own expedition training businesses up and thriving to join me for a no-host dinner at Jimmy’s on First. This will be the first Saturday of the show, January 31st starting at 6pm. Jimmy’s is located just across the street from the main boat show entrance. RSVP

June 1, 2025 Update:

END OF AN ERA – After 38 seasons the May-July Scottish Isles training expeditions series was my last. What a fabulous time it’s been, exploring some of the most remote and exciting cruising areas in the world while training 1800 sailors how to sail their own boats safely anywhere in the world. I’ve recently assisted previous Mahina Expedition members Julie and Gio Cappelli setting up their own sail-training program, Pelagic Blue in the PNW, using the Garcia Exploration 50 Obelix, and also Ken Parker and Renee Evans who have announced their training program, Koru Expeditions for Haida Gwaii and later the Pacific Islands utilizing their 50′ performance catamaran.

Mahina Offshore Workshop held annually at Marine Tech Center in Anacortes, WA, March 8 & 9, 2025. This was my 180th and final Offshore Cruising Seminar since 1977 as I’ve given this part of Mahina Expeditions to my former students, clients and co-presenters, Julie and Gio Cappelli who have already set a date for Mahina Cruising Seminars at the Annapolis Boat Show this October and also in in the PNW January 2026.

I’ve just updated BOATS TO CONSIDER FOR OFFSHORE CRUISING LIST I’ve just totally gone through updating, adding and eliminating boats from my four-page list of 158 builders and 424 models worldwide, based on recent findings and input from surveyors, boatyards and owners worldwide. Click HERE for the updated list.

Check out new list of seminar co-presenters and colleagues HERE. My goal is to make this Team Mahina page a resource linking to my trusted colleagues around the world, saving you time and money.
